about us
We're not a formal fine dining restaurant. We're something more enduring, a reflection of this land and its ingredients, guided by time, technique, and respect for what's real.
Tucked between mountains and lakes in the heart of Queenstown, Rātā has spent over a decade celebrating the quiet beauty of New Zealand dining: produce-led, grounded in the land and sea, and crafted with care. In 2025, Rātā was awarded a Hat in the Cuisine Good Food Guide, New Zealand's most respected restaurant award, with a score of 17.5.
Our name comes from the native rātā tree, which blooms brilliantly in rugged alpine terrain. It stands for resilience, balance, and renewal, values that continue to shape who we are and how we cook. Like the tree, we've grown deep roots here in Queenstown, evolving with the seasons yet remaining true to where we began.
We follow nature's lead, working closely with local growers and farmers across Central Otago and the South Island, and often foraging ourselves to bring the region's wild ingredients to the table. Each dish tells a story of place, honest, expressive, and full of soul.
This is the taste of New Zealand: timeless, unhurried, and unmistakably our own.
